Backing the Search for the UK’s Best Young Market Trader
Backing the Search for the UK’s Best Young Market Trader
The search is on for the UK’s brightest young entrepreneurs as the Young Traders Market (YTM) campaign returns for 2025 and this year, the North Essex Economic Board (NEEB) is proud to play a central role in supporting the initiative through its fully funded Young Entrepreneurs Programme.
Run nationally by the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF), the YTM campaign is open to individuals aged 16 to 30, providing a unique opportunity for young people to gain hands-on experience in market trading, develop business acumen, and build their brands from the ground up. From handmade goods and street food to fashion and creative services, young traders are encouraged to take part and grow their ventures through local markets.
As part of its ongoing commitment to youth enterprise, NEEB is offering fully funded support for young traders across North Essex, including:
- Free trading opportunities at selected local markets
- £200 seed funding to support stock, materials, or setup costs
- The chance to progress to the YTM regional finals, and potentially represent North Essex at the national final in Stratford-upon-Avon over the August bank holiday weekend
At the final, traders from across the UK and Northern Ireland will compete for the prestigious title of Young Market Trader of the Year, with prizes including:
- £700 cash prize
- A pop-up retail unit in a shopping centre (courtesy of Space & People)
- Peddle membership
- Free NMTF membership for one year
There will also be additional monetary prizes for category winners
Beyond the competition, this initiative offers invaluable experience in business planning, customer engagement, and self-employment with ongoing support from both the NMTF and local partners like NEEB.
By supporting this programme NEEB is continuing its mission to foster a thriving, inclusive entrepreneurial culture in North Essex — empowering young people to turn their ambitions into action and their side hustles into sustainable businesses.
